The Alligators “Time’s Up You’re Dead”

20120805-132329.jpg

For all you hardcore fans out there, The Alligators is a new super group of hardcore. Roger Miret, frontman for Agnostic Front, teams up with some of the guys from the hardcore band, Insted. I know what you’re thinking, pretty badass, right? Well, that’s exactly what this album “Time’s Up, You’re Dead” is, pure heavy hitting, ass kicking, energetic old school hardcore. The Alligators are keeping it true to hardcore roots. After all, Roger Miret is like the Godfather of hardcore. I wouldn’t expect anything less. I’m actually a big fan of Agnostic Front and Insted. I’m glad they teamed up and can’t get enough of this record. The album was released in 2012 on hardcore label Bridge9.
I picked up this record from my friend Durty Mick at Durty Mick Records. He has the best of the best in hardcore, punk, oi, and metal vinyl. He’s the “go to guy” for my vinyl addiction. He also has skateboards, t-shirts, etc. He’s located in Long Beach, CA. If you live in the area, check him out at 403 E. 3rd St. Long Beach, CA. I mostly order on line. He usually has vinyl that is hard for me to find. You can find him here:

The Crumbs

20120711-215718.jpg

I wanted to post this blog about one of my all time favorite punk bands. The crumbs are a punk band that I grew up with in the Miami punk and hardcore scene. They have a huge following and have outlasted every punk band on the scene. They’re influence has spread across the U.S.; I found a crumbs record at the world famous Amoeba records in Hollywood, Ca. (pictured). I thought they were only big in the Miami scene but apparently not.
I have most of their albums but still do not have the entire collection. Some are very hard to find are very much sought out in the punk rock scenes across the country. My favorite punk song of all time is The Crumb’s “Shakespeare”, a very inspirational song to me to this very day.
The Crumbs have stayed true to their underground punk roots by not selling out and drinking cheap beer. If they were on a major label, they might have lost their punk credibility like a lot of bands have. They’re in it for the fun and the fans, not for the money. That is what punk rock is about.
They have recorded several albums over the years and have had countless tours. They toured with bands such as The Donnas, The Queers, No Fraud, The Swingin Utters, and Against All Authority. The Crumbs have been going strong and virtually nonstop since 1993. Before The Crumbs, frontman Raf Classic played in the band Cavity before forming The Crumbs. Raf Classic is also a talented artist as well. The Crumbs mascot “Borrach” is a legendary punk icon, especially in the Miami punk scene. He came up with most of the designs on the albums. The Crumbs were even on the famous punk labels such as Lookout! Records, who had famous punk bands like Green Day and Operation Ivy, and TKO Records. The Crumbs discography is as follows:

– 1995: I Fell in Love With an Alien Girl and I think I’m Goin’ to Mars With Her (Recess Records)
– 1995: Get All Tangled Up (Farout Records)
– 1996: Shakespeare (Lookout! Records)
– 1997: The Crumbs (Lookout! Records)
– 1998: Low and Behold (Lookout! Records)
– 2000: Out of Range (Recess Records)
– 2004: Last Exit (TKO Records)
– 2006: Hold That Shit Right (Recess Records)
– 2008: Dade County Trash (Insubordination Records)
– 2009: split record with The Ridicules (It’s Alive Records)
– 2009: Live from Baltimore (Insubordination Records)
– 2010: Gator Kicks (Livid Records)

Best of Booty Music

20120710-174457.jpg

One of my favorite hip hop performers of all time is Microphone Mike. I have all three of his albums “Overdrive”, “Teen Idol”, and “Coming Up Green”. He takes somewhat of a comedic twist on hip hop and booty music, which makes his style unique. I was first introduced to his music through a friend and have been a huge fan ever since.
Originally from Miami, Fl, the birthplace of Booty music, Microphone Mike has spread Booty music all the way to the west coast. He has a large underground following. I love his videos and cannot get enough of jamming out to his albums and watching his videos. They are guarantee to make you smile.
Even if you’re not a huge hip hop fan, you’ll love the awesome talent of Microphone Mike. His videos, which can be found on YouTube and are unbelievably hilarious. Here’s a sample of one of my favorite Microphone Mike videos…

BOLD “The Seach 1985 – 1989

20120701-202821.jpg

I listened to a lot of hardcore as a youngster and in fact I still do. One of my favorite hardcore bands is BOLD from the eighties when hardcore was at its peak. A much better time for hardcore music. These guys are pioneers and legends! A straight edge band on revelation records. . I have a famed BOLD tape “Speak Out” that I’ve had for ages. I also have the poster in my studio.
This double vinyl record comes with a blue and a purple vinyl. A must have for your straight edge hardcore record collection. This is a “greatest hits” on revelation records pressed in 2011. I cannot get enough of this record.

Pocket of Lollipops

Hey Guys,
I wanted to post a band that has a unique sound all its own. Pocket of Lollipops is a duo that is expanding musical boundaries with a very ecclectic sound. They play several shows and I believe they will be touring soon. Be sure to check them out, watch this cool video, and like their facebook page.
The film was directed by a very talented director here in Miami, Fl, Alex Alvarez along with his right hand man camera man Felix Alvarez. No, they are not related in case you were wondering. I had the privledge of being on set and had lots of fun. My VW bus “Lil miss Sunshine” also made her theatrical debut. Be sure to check her out towards the end of the video. No lollipops were harmed in the making of this film.
The ban should be coming out with a collectible and limited edition vinyl soon. So, get them while they’re hot. When released I will post a copy as soon as I get one. Remember Kiddos to support local musicians and artists. Enjoy !!!

Polvo “Shapes”

Here’s a band my brother got me into when I was in college in the mid to late 1990’s. We would always talk about music, bands, shows, and of course vinyl records. I know my brother has good taste in music, so I picked up this Polvo record. I went home and listened to it, but at first listen I wasn’t so sure I liked it. I think I called my brother and asked him why he made me buy this. The more I played the album, the more it grew on me. I was more into harder music like punk, but this Indie band I soon came to realize was like no other. They have a very unique sound with intricate alternate tunings. The more I listened, the more I enjoyed. Pretty soon I went looking for every Polvo record around.

Their music is timeless and I never get tired of listenening to them. I eventually had the opportunity to see them play live when I was in Jacksonville Beach, Fl. attending the University of North Florida. They played one of my favorite places at the time, Einsteins-A-Go-Go. It was a small place with a small stage inside. Polvo really blew my mind because of their unique talent just delivered so much energy in the room. It was a really good show and I am glad they played such a cool local venue.

I cannot wait to post more from this band. This album “Shapes” was released in 1997 on Touch and Go Records, a cool Indie label. They also did some albums on Merge Records, another good Indie label. One wouldn’t think Polvo is from the Carolina’s at first. Later in life I discovered there was a good music scene up there.

This is definitely a score and a very sought out vinyl record. If you come across it, pick it up. You will surely enjoy it !!!

Mudhoney “Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge”

Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge on Sub Pop

Just Rad !!!

I picked up this Mudhoney vinyl which is perhaps my favorite grunge band. This musical masterpiece was recorded on the famous Sub Pop label. Although, the label is famous mostly for punk bands from the 1980’s and 1990’s, Mudhoney was emerging from the Seattle, Wa. punk scene into a new wave of rock, grunge rock. Mudhoney paved the way for a plethora of grunge bands from Seattle, Wa.     One of the best memories was meeting Mudhoney while they were playing on tour at Churchill’s Pub in Miami,Fl. It was so Epic and they played exceptionally well throughout the entire show. I had the priviledge of meeting the band and hanging out backstage after the show. These guys were the real deal and just were uber cool. I bought a rad tour poster which I then Mudhoney had signed for my brother. I also bought their latest album which they signed. And also, the Birds of Avalon, who opened up. Both albums will be blogged about when I get around to it. So, check back in will ya??? =)      When I was in High School growing up in Miami as a drummer and skateboarder, I jammed to Mudhoney constantly. This album sure does bring me back a lot of great memories. It’s definitely a timeless piece.
